Auto Immune

Auto Immune
An Autoimmune disease is where the body’s immune system begins to attack the body itself.
The immune system may detect the presence of a toxin and sends antibodies to get rid of the toxin, however some toxins mimic or look very similar to hormones / substances or even tissue that are needed by the body. The antibody attacks those as well as the toxin as it can’t tell the difference. Thus problems such as Hashimotos Thyroiditis or Graves disease occur, where the immune system create antibodies that attack the thyroid.
So the problem is not with the immune system itself, but with the presence of toxins that the immune system is trying to eliminate.

The autoimmune response is solved by eliminating inflammation, detoxifying the body and building up the immune system.

Bacterial imbalance
The most common components of food that can damage your intestinal lining are the proteins found in un-sprouted grains, sugar, GMO’s and conventional dairy. The problem with un-sprouted grains is that they contain large amounts of antinutrients or nutrient blockers called phytates and lectins. Lectins are sugar-binding proteins that act as a natural defense system for plants that protect them from outside invaders like mold and parasites.
This is good news for plants but bad news for your body. Your digestive lining is covered with sugar-containing cells that help break down your food. Lectins gravitate toward this area and when they attach to your digestive lining, it damages your gut and causes inflammation.

emulsifiers used in packaged foods ranging from mayonnaise to bread to ice cream have been shown to increase intestinal permeability (leaky gut) and cause a chain reaction of inflammation and autoimmune disease.

It’s likely that you’ve heard about the detrimental effects of the stress hormone cortisol. Elevated cortisol levels and chronic stress can affect every physiological system in your body, including your thyroid and adrenal glands. It can make you anxious and irritable, lead to weight gain and bone loss, contribute to diabetes and heart disease risk, and deplete your energy levels.

Cortisol is also known as the aging hormone. When cortisol gets too high, it puts you into a “fight or flight” response, which stimulates your sympathetic nervous system and your adrenal glands. When this occurs, there is a decrease in your digestive secretions and an increase in blood pressure. This puts your body in a state of constant stress, which will burn out your adrenal glands, stress your digestive tract and cause you to age more rapidly.

So if you want to look younger, feel younger and be healthy — and heal adrenal fatigue — you must get your cortisol levels balanced.

Side effects of chronically elevated cortisol can include:

  • Anxiety
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Cancer
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Common Colds
  • Hormone imbalance
  • Irritable bowel disease
  • Thyroid conditions
  • Weight loss resistance

So what can help us adapt to stress and lower cortisol? Adaptogens

  1. High cortisol levels and chronic stress can affect every physiological and psychological system.
  2. Adaptogens balance and restore the body.
  3. You can increase your capacity to deal with stress and improve your mental and physical performance with the use of adaptogens.

Dont get hung up on treating the thyroid directly, a problem thyroid or high values in any of the indicators is an indication of inbalance in other body systems that is resulting in a poorly functioning thyroid.
the presence of thyroid antibodies indicates an auto-immune response, ie the body is attacking the thyroid as if it was a foreign body.
The adrenal glands and thyroid regulate a lot of body systems and produce hormones in order to do so, but they cannot instantly produce large quantities of hormones so they collect chemicals from the body & store for when needed.
